The writing style that interests me most is comparative literature.

I view the writing process as a conversation; whatever is being read starts the dialogue. When I dig into the writer’s thought process and engage myself with text, I can hear the writer calling me to react. Writing provides me an opportunity to respond to that call, to add my voice to the conversation.

As I write, I spend most of my time not writing at all. The vast majority of my time is spent working through my ideas. I focus on organizing my thoughts, developing my argument, and finding my voice for what I will put on the page. When it finally comes time to write, I just go. As I write, I make sure to put whatever comes to mind on paper. I then organize it into something more coherent.

For me, there are few feelings better than that moment when I recognize that I have articulated my thoughts. Consequently, being a part of that discussion, the dialogue between reading and writing is my favorite part of being a writer. As students at the UW Bothell, we enter into that conversation on a daily basis.

I am currently enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences program with a focus on Culture, Literature and the Arts. My ultimate goal is to become a high school English teacher. I am excited about the possibilities of helping students grow as readers, writers and as critical thinkers.
