MA Cultural Studies Student
BA Liberal Arts The Evergreen State College 2010, emphasis in Cultural Studies and Business/Nonprofit Management
Although I enjoy working on all types of writing, I am particularly eager to work with students throughout the process of writing personal statements for applications to schools, scholarships, or to study abroad. Writing a personal statement is the ultimate challenge in writing, and it involves drawing on all of your strengths and talents that may seem obscure: ones that you might not even know you have. Similarly, I also enjoy working with students during their research process, developing a thesis and an argument, and working on organizing and brainstorming ideas.
As a graduate student in my second year of the MA Cultural Studies program, I am available to help students with reading scholarly articles or understanding concepts related to cultural or global studies, and I am also available to work through articles or concepts on any topic that you might be having difficulty with.
When I was an undergraduate student, I frequently utilized the writing center at my college. The consultants helped me to become the writer that I am today. I used to be anxious and confused when confronted with an assignment, but I learned how to work through the writing process, and to see writing as an enjoyable challenge; I realized that writing doesn’t have to be difficult; it can be a creative and playful experience. Writing is a useful tool that can be used to work through our thoughts, and I believe that this tool should be used more often.
