Nicholas Klacsanzky, Writing Consultant

BA in Writing and Literature, The Evergreen State College, 2008
Favorite types of writing: poetry, short stories, novels and research essays.

In high school, the only thing that made sense to me was writing poetry. I could use my imagination – rely on my intuitive sense. There were worlds I could visit outside my neighborhood, inside everyday objects.

But essays, I found out in college, were not that bad. It was gratifying to watch a paper grow, to make someone believe in what I was saying. Research was like detective work, finding the links to solve a larger picture.

Now that I have finished my BA and will soon begin an MFA program, I have adopted a more holistic approach. I notice the importance of creativity in mathematics, how science relates to the writing process, and how history enhances description. To learn something, I believe all we need is enjoyment of that subject. Writing may not be your forté, but I am sure we can find ways to enjoy it!
