Masters in Education with Secondary Certification
I enjoy poetry and historical fiction.
Lightning was a red and white checkered horse with a white-yarn mane. He starred in several neighborhood plays, all of which I wrote, directed, and acted in. I was always Annabelle, (Lightning’s owner) and my best friend was always Isabelle (Annabelle’s best friend). I also wrote various songs for school talent shows, most notably “Baby, Baby, Sweetie Pie.”
While these were my main styles of writing in elementary school, I can honestly say I don’t have the patience or talent to write those styles now. Give me confessionalist poetry and Sharon Olds any day! (If you don’t know what or who that is, I highly recommend Googling them.)
I graduated from Western Washington University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in English (emphasis in Creative Writing) and a minor en Français. I took two years off between undergrad and grad school to “find myself.” The first year I taught English in Lille, France (and traveled around Europe). The second year I worked at Cascadia Community College as an AmeriCorps member, helping students find opportunities to help out in the community.
When you can’t find me working at the Writing Center, I can be found at Juanita Elementary working at the Ready Start Preschool with the best 3-5 year olds ever. Even though I work at a preschool, I am here at UWB studying to be a high school teacher in the Masters of Education program. My ultimate goal in life is to bring poetry to the masses by publishing my own book of poetry.
