"Today I will get started on this paper. No wait, tomorrow I will get started. Ok! I promise to have it started by the end of the week.”
Getting started on writing has always been the hardest part for me. My own nature as a perfectionist would work against me and I would struggle with writing that first sentence. Trust me when I say that I know what it’s like to sit staring at the screen for hours on end, which would be why it’s taken me seven years to get started on writing a book idea I’ve had floating around in my head.
I can’t think of any written assignment I ever started writing on the day it was assigned. Learning how to manage my time was crucial or else I would end up starting a paper the night before it was due. What I did was learn to set up a quota of pages per day so that instead of looking at it as one giant paper, I was looking at it as a series of short daily goals to meet. Doing that also helped me to know exactly when I should get started, and how many pages per day I would write.
Being a CSS major and hopefully one day a game designer, knowing how to communicate complex ideas is absolutely critical for me. I am excited to be helping others to become better writers so that I can become a better writer myself.
