Katie Grainger, Writing Consultant

I never took advantage of the writing center during my time as an undergraduate student at Wofford College.  I realize, four years later, that this was a terrible decision.  Mediocre.  Average student.  Never aiming for anything beyond that B+ on essays.  That was me three years ago.  It wasn’t until I started asking my peers and professors for assistance that I realized I was wrong and deliberately avoiding the opportunity to grow and to reach my greatest potential as a writer.

I’ve learned (rather stubbornly) that writing is a process, and that there are no perfect writers or papers.  Everyone needs help with writing.  There is no reason to feel embarrassed in asking for help with your writing.  I would not have wasted so much time and energy trying to figure this out alone had I made use of the writing center while I was acquiring my B.A. in English (emphasis in Latin American & Caribbean Studies). So, please, learn from my mistakes and save yourself the additional stress.

On that note, I am here to help you with whatever you find intimidating, frustrating, confusing, or difficult to organize.  Pepper me with questions.  Whether it’s about a philosophical concept, film analysis, definitions of gender and sexuality, or that great American novel that you just read twice for your English class and still feel clueless as to how you could come up with that great paper idea… that’s what I’m here for.

And if you need to save the day, I can help you become Batman.
