You know that terrible feeling when you’re sitting there staring at the blank page, desperately needing to write, but have nothing to say?

Well I don’t.

I always have something to say. In fact, I usually have a few things to say about any topic which catches my attention. If anything, I have the opposite problem: how do I fit everything I want to say about a subject into the maximum space allotted for doing so? It turns out my BIS300 teacher does not enjoy receiving a six page paper on Freire when he’d requested three. Double-spaced.

My task then, is usually to edit. I have to stop and ask myself, “What is the most important thing to say about this topic? What most succinctly demonstrates my knowledge of the subject? What unique perspective can I offer; what can I say about this that no one else can?” I’m still learning the art of concision.

I love finding connections between things: this paper and last week’s reading assignment; this class discussion and a movie from another class; a question about Communism and the cafe I where I often lunched as a child. So if you need help figuring out what you can say about a topic, unpacking meaning, brainstorming and organizing your paper, outlines, thesis statements, or just plain getting started, I’m your girl! Likewise, if you need help fleshing out your ideas or meeting word requirements, I’m ready to tackle it with you. Let’s figure out what you have to say!
