IAS: Media and Communication Studies

Remember in Disney’s The Jungle Book when Kaa (the snake) tried to hypnotize Mowgli with its eyes? I remember going through a similar feeling in high school, when I first read writings by Shakespeare and Twain—instantly I was hooked.

Thankfully, no one snapped me out of it and my love for literature and writing has only continued to grow. The more I fell in love with their writings, the more I fell in love with the writing process. Later on, throughout my educational career, I began to realize that writing became my major and most fulfilling challenge. Math and science could not compare to writing, formulas and equations weren’t a part of me, but my writing was. Writing was always very personal. I struggled stepping out of my comfort zone and writing things that really revealed who I was as a person. With each sentence I structured and each essay I finally decided to save, print, and submit, I felt myself growing into a stronger writer. I grew in experience, and a lot of my knowledge came from remembering the methods I used before that weren’t as effective and not repeating them. Through more passion, came more strive to learn, develop, and succeed. The satisfaction I felt in my work when I would complete a piece of writing and know that I overcame that challenge and out of it came a beautiful piece of work. I’ll admit there have been times when I have waved that white flag and surrendered to the paper just as many of you have as well. No writer is perfect, but with the right motivation and guidance anyone can become a confident writer. That is what I am here to help instill in you as an author!
