Disko Praphanchith, Peer Consultant

As a peer consultant, I offer students guidance in understanding the basics of their assignment, help craft theses, as well as work on structure and grammar. I am well-versed in writing papers in the humanities, and know that my background can help with all diverse disciplines. I am patient and willing to go at the student’s pace, as well as make sure I am properly meeting their needs.

Though language is diverse, there are certain elements of language which are universal and transcend culture. My experience teaching English in Asia allowed me to pinpoint this site of cultural transcendence, where I then attempt to help students find meaning with their words.

I was born in Laos, Vientiane, a small Asian country bordered by Thailand and Vietnam. I moved to America at a very young age, and, since then, have been able to retain my cultural heritage. At home, I speak Lao with my family, and out in public, I speak fluent English. Because of this dualism, I offer the Writing and Communication Center a unique and comprehensive approach in assisting non-English speakers.
