The Academic Transition Program (ATP) is a year-long academic preparation program designed to provide assistance for historically disadvantaged, low-income, and first generation college students, though all students may be considered to participate. While these students may not have performed well by the traditional measures of college preparedness such as standardized testing, candidates are selected for the program by showing great promise through overcoming adversity, and by demonstrating particularly strong motivation to succeed in college.
The Mentoring Program is one component of the entire Academic Transition Program. Students are paired with a faculty or staff member whom provides on-going support and assistance as students become familiar with campus resources. The role of the ATP mentor includes:
- Support mentees in achieving their educational goals
- Refer mentees to resources to assist in their personal, educational, and career development
- Assist students with their adjustment to college life at UW Bothell
In addition to providing support to students, mentors must be willing to:
- Attend one of the Mentor Information Sessions
- Attend the ATP Mentorship Program Meet and Greet
- Meet with student mentees at least three times each quarter
- Contact mentees at least twice per month outside of scheduled meetings
- Complete a mentor log each quarter
