2012-2013 ASUWB Executive Board Elect
Election Results
PRESIDENT
+
Kevin King
Three years have passed since I first stepped foot on UWB/CCC campus, and I have worked on many projects. My experience alone with student affairs is a huge qualifier. I helped create the Food For Thought Student Center, the UWB Sports Field, and I am also the longest standing member on the joint Student Facilities Advisory Committee and in that committee I have worked on the upcoming Student Activity Center for 3 years. Furthermore, I have 2 years of Student Government Presidential experience at Cascadia. I have received the Brett Webster Award of Exemplary Leadership last year at CCC, which is the highest leadership award a student can receive at Cascadia, and I have been nominated again this year! Since high school I have been driven by my passion to serve others and to achieve my long life goal to become a US Senator for WA State. It is my desire to continue to serve the students as your new ASUWB President.
With the leadership skills I have obtained over the years including that of student leadership, local and state politics and as a business owner I believe I bring exactly what you need! Here are a few things that I wish to accomplish with next year's ASUWB. Listed in no particular order, they are: create more student jobs on campus, establish better communication between student leaders and you, and continue the legacy of keeping environmental sustainability a top priority to UWB, and finally, continue to lobby for UWB students.
VICE PRESIDENT

Mathew Lam
The reason I want to serve as a Student Government representative is because I believe in the values of our university, our UW Bothell community and the students the ASUWB serve for. Students should know and feel that their voices are to be heard, that the changes they want to see on campus are a possibility and often times a reality, and that they should be empowered to create change. The qualities I bring to the role of Vice-President include order, focus, and determination, just to name a few. With my skills, I hope to service our young campus in developing into a strong and thriving community that truly supports our diverse student body; to assist in the development of our soon-to-be Student Union Building and UWB3 (Science Building) and enrich our students on advocacy and activism where appropriate. During my term as Vice-President, I will be working with our DSAA members and our Students of Color on bringing better resources to our students. Two specific tasks I see that need to be addressed is the creation of a gender-neutral restroom and a space where students can share their issues that target or relate to diversity.
DIRECTORS

Tal Singh, Director of Business Operations
There are three main factors that create a comprehensive argument for why I should become the next Director of Business Operations. My experience, my network, and my ambition. I am currently the Vice President of Collegiate DECA and placed 2ndat state and placed in the top 10 internationally in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. I am also currently the Director of Marketing for the Husky Herald UW Bothell’s student newspaper. My marketing expertise has allowed me to create a deep bench of professional contacts and partners that I have tapped into to create innovative solutions to marketing challenges. I am engrossed in the study of business and see it as my future as well as my present. I was an intern at Ogden Murphy Wallace, where I learned team management and budget planning; I was also the budget director for the construction of two small franchises located in Seattle and Kirkland. Seeing these businesses thrive solidified my goal of one day operating my own business, and I will continue to learn best practices through self-study and entrepreneurship planning. I am very active at UW Bothell and believe that my wide range of talents will help me succeed and successfully complete my tasks as Director of Business Operations.

Shahin Mortazavi, Director of Government Relations
My name is Shahin Mortazavi and I am running for ASUWB Director of Government Relations. I started at UW Bothell three years ago as a freshman. Since then I have had the opportunity to take leadership roles on campus in various positions. Two years ago I served on Student Activities Fee Committee. I am very grateful that you put your trust in me and voted me into ASUWB as an Executive Representative last year. I hope that you will put your trust in me again this year, so we can collectively make a difference at UW Bothell and in Olympia. If elected we will continue to voice our concerns to Legislators in Olympia, help fight for issues concerning students here at UWB, and maintain our strong role in Washington Student Association. Thank you for your support, I hope to serve you again next year.

Ty Edwards, Director of Student Advocacy
Since arriving on the UW Bothell campus, I have been heavily involved in public service. I had the privilege of being a part of the core team during the beginning stages when the Dream Project (helping first generation and low income students get into college) started on our campus. I myself am a low income, first generation student, and I have had to overcome some hardships in order to get my education. While at UW Bothell, I have dedicated my college career to helping those who are in need or who are in a similar situation. I would like to continue to help fulfill the needs of the students through hard work, passion, dedication and perseverance.

Jodi St. George, Director of Public Relations
As a current junior at The University of Washington Bothell, the experiences I have gained during my time shaped my desire to serve as a Student Government representative. As a Business Administration major, specifically concentrating in Marking and Management, I have strong marketing and public relations expertise skills that I wish to apply to the success of ASUWB and in turn the success of our campus. As the Director of Public Relations for ASUWB, I plan to increase outreach efforts and reach more students than ever before. It is my goal to increase transparency, and by doing this, understand what is working and what isn’t for our student body. I am constantly getting involved in new things on campus that I believe can increase the benefit to our student body these include being the Services and Activities Fee Committee Chair, a Diversity Programmer, a Student Assistant, and an officer of multiple clubs on campus. Through each of these involvements I have found new ways to benefit our campus and am constantly looking for ways to better the quality of experiences for our students. As the Director of Public Relations for ASUWB, I will always be available to students who wish to discuss changes or ideas for our campus and I will constantly advocate for their wellbeing.
2012-2013 ASUWB Senate Elect
SOPHOMORE
David Edwards, Sophomore Senator
I want to serve on the Student Senate to make sure every student has their voice heard. I believe that every student has valuable ideas that can benefit the community as a whole, but often these ideas are never heard. It is my goal to change this by serving as the link between the student body and the two branches of student government. If elected I will do my best to reach out to as many students as possible, and make sure their ideas and concerns are voiced. I believe a Student Senator needs to be a strong leader and a good listener, both of which are skills that I possess. I also realize that this position is about something much bigger than myself. If I am elected it will be my goal to work with the students, and for the students.

David Lile, Sophomore Senator
As a Student Senate, I want to serve as a liaison between next year's Sophomore Class and the ASUWB. I seek to tackle on any general concerns that students have and my mission to create a beneficial experience at the UWB. Some of the qualities that I bring to this position include: being the Chair for the Freshman Council and understanding how to empower others around me and seek input from students when needed. I feel that I want to make a positive impact to my Sophomore Class and by being a Student Senate I can accomplish that goal.
JUNIOR

Liam Munro, Junior Senator
The moment I heard about the creation of the Student Senate I was excited about the opportunity to potentially represent my class. This is our university, we pay part of the bills and we deserve to have our voices heard during important decision- making processes. This is the give and take of a democratic system, we are vital to the university but the university is also vital for us, the students. Our actions influence the university and the university's decisions have an important bearing on our experience gaining a higher education. I feel like I was meant to be a leader and have a duty to give back to the school from which I will gain invaluable knowledge and life lessons. This is a belief I hope my fellow students also share. As your student senator I hope to make you feel like those in charge at our university are listening. I believe that I will bring fresh ideas to the student senate, always looking for innovative solutions that are still feasible. When working in a group I naturally gravitate toward a leadership role while being more than willing to bring in others and work together to make the best decisions possible. I want to work with you, hear your input and use that to advocate for what’s best for our class and our entire student body. After all this is the Student Senate, with an emphasis on STUDENT.

I am a founding member of ASUWB’s freshman council. Our goal was to give a voice to the freshman class that was un-represented in student government at the time. We reached out to key members of UWB and our fellow classmates to help build a more accurate picture of the freshman experience and give ideas on how to improve it. My goal is to continue advocating for you and ensure that the class of 2014 is accurately represented during all significant decision-making junctures at UW Bothell.
I promise that as a member of the Student Senate I will put the best interests of the class of 2014 first and promote more awareness of policies to give you a stronger voice. Throughout the years I have studied government processes on both a micro and macro level and if I have learned anything, it is that the marking of a good government is one that represents its people. I enjoy talking to others and will always be willing to listen to any issues that you may have. I believe that seeking creative ways to solve problems while maintaining grounded will help us overcome any problems we face. I look forward to working together with other student senators and the rest of ASUWB. The road to making this school an even better place will be long and vigorous, but I know I can do it. I am determined and will work to my greatest potential to make the most of this upcoming year.
SENIOR

Marlene Manzo, Senior Senator
I would like to serve as Student Senator primarily because I am eager to serve the UW Bothell student body. I am curious of the wants and needs of the student body. I want to be the person that advocates for students and work side by side with my community to establish a more pleasant experience for all students. All our students have different backgrounds, visions and needs; these unique attributes of our students should be recognized and their needs should be fulfilled. It would be an honor to serve as Student Senator. I have had an amazing experience at UW Bothell thus far, and I would like all students to graduate with the same feeling of satisfaction.

Charles Zeng, Senior Senator
I hope to serve as a Student Senator for the senior class because I believe my attention to details and my strong will to voice for my fellow students are instrumental to what students need from the Student Senator. As a member of Student Senate, I will advocate in allocating resources for seniors in preparation for their graduation, including relationships with the Career Center in graduate school application and job search. As an international student myself, I will also advocate for international students within the senior class to provide them with more opportunities due to their special circumstances and the obstacles they may face with graduation. I hope to assist the senior class in harvesting the most valuable experience before their graduation and help lead their paths.
