Wellness programs are an opportunity to improve your physical, mental, and intellectual health outside the classroom. There is always a great variety of classes, and this page is updated frequently. Also, all classes are FREE!

Fitness Classes

Shelby

Total Body Conditioning

Wednesdays, October 7 to December 9 (no class on November 11 or November 25)
     (8:15 pm - 9:15 pm)
Thursdays, October 8 to December 10 (no class on November 26)

Location: Student Fitness Center (UW2-040)      
Instructor:  Shelby Handran
Total Body Conditioning is group-fitness training at its best!  Instructor Shelby Handran (owner of Personalized Health and Fitness) will take you through a series of strength exercises that will target muscles throughout your entire body.  Many forms of resistance will be utilized during this class ranging from-free weights, resistance bands, medicine balls, to body resistance.  This style of training is very unique versus most traditional styles of training (muscle isolation).  Be prepared to improve muscular and cardiovascular endurance. Increase core strength, improve flexibility, and see a complete change in body composition by applying some basic nutritional guidelines!

Note that there are two separate days/times of this class to accommodate more students.

Pilates

Pilates

Wednesdays, October 7th - November 18 (no class on November 11)

Instructor:  Joleen Lester
Pilates is all about lengthening and strengthening! This basic level mat session is designed to work your core and help you achieve long, lean muscles. Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates, these movements will also help you gain postural alignment, balance and flexibility.

YogaYoga

Wednesdays, October 21st - November 25 (no class on November 11)
9:30 am - 10:30 am
Location: Dance Studio (UW2-021)      
Instructor:  Teri Hensen
Hatha Yoga improves breathing and helps to increase self-awareness, confidence, and independence. Taught in such a way that each student feels challenged without feeling intimidated. Students are encouraged to listen to their own mind/body dialogue until they discover, for themselves, the joy of yoga.

Cardio Intervals '30 Minute Express'Northshore

Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 6 - November 24
1:30pm-2:00pm
Location: Student Fitness Center (UW2-040)
Instructor: Northshore Fitness
Join us in the fitness center to increase your cardiovascular endurance while burning calories at the same time. This class includes a combination of interval drills (varying intensity) on the treadmills, cycles, and elliptical machines, as well as standing cardio movements. An overall review of the cardio equipment will be included along with modifications for all fitness levels. Don't worry about getting bored in this class - the instructor will keep things interesting by providing fitness facts and promoting fun class interactions!

Core Conditioning '30 Minute Express'Northshore

Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 6 - November 24
2:00-2:30pm
Location: Dance Studio (UW2-021)
Instructor: Northshore Fitness
This class can be added onto the Cardio Intervals 'Express' or taken on its own. Learn how to use basic body weight exercises to increase core strength. This class ends with a relaxing stretch of the whole body. No shoes are worn in this class and mats are provided.
