Training Cyber Security Experts

UW Bothell offers a cyber security course for undergraduates and in fall 2013 will introduce a graduate degree in Cyber Security Engineering. A state-of-the-art, virtual environment allows students to practice their cyber security skills. UW Bothell’s expertise in cyber security is being noticed on the national stage. The school has used its virtual environment to host the Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition; the Washington State National Guard and Los Alamos National Laboratory have also conducted training sessions with UW Bothell.
Clearing the Air
UW Bothell Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry professor Dan Jaffe has received a 2013-14 Fulbright Award to study at the University of Naples. Jaffe studies atmospheric pollution, especially mercury, and carbon monoxide in long-range transport of air pollution in the Arctic and Pacific regions. Through the Jaffe Research Group, Jaffe and UW Bothell students conduct studies to identify particulate matter from trains, especially coal trains.
Scrutinizing Software Development
Computer science professor Hazeline Asuncion has $500,000 in funding from the National Science Foundation for her project “Tracing and Reasoning about Changing Artifacts.” The project aims to develop lightweight and flexible technology to manage and understand changes that occur to software during the development process.
