August 23 - Co-Teaching Workshop, North Creek Event Center, 12:30 – 4:30 pm
First district contracted day – Sept 23, September Experience
- Teacher candidates attend meetings in schools and help set up a classroom
- They observe and assist with the opening of school.
- They focus observations on the formation of learning communities, introduction to curriculum, and evidence of student learning in 4 classes/day
- Teacher candidates will receive ‘training’ at their schools to work with individual students within existing tutoring or academic support structures
- Teacher candidates provide academic support in their subject to individual students1 period/day
September 25-28, UW-Bothell teacher candidates break to begin campus courses
October 4 – 15 Alternate Level Field Experience.
- Teacher Candidates will observe and assist at a level opposite their assigned school
October 18 – December 17, Teacher candidates return to assigned school
- Teacher candidates resume tutoring/academic support responsibilities 1 period/day
- Teachers and teacher candidates incorporate the Co-Teaching Model to scaffold and share responsibilities for student learning in 4 classes
- Teacher candidates co-teach some periodic lessons or parts of lessons
- Teacher candidates co-teach at least 1 unit for 2 weeks to 2 classes, OR 1 class for 4 weeks, 3 of the same class for no more than 2 weeks for a total of 20-25 lessons. Teacher candidates will not plan alone or teach full time during the Autumn quarter.
- Teacher candidates have Professional Practice Seminar at UW Bothell every other Thursday at 3:50 pm beginning October 7
Winter Quarter 2011
January 3 – March 18
- Cooperating Teacher and teacher candidate resume Co-Teaching model of student teaching
- Student teacher gradually assumes primary responsibility, within the Co-teaching model, for 4 classes for 6 weeks
- UW Bothell student continues tutoring/academic support responsibilities every day for entire quarter
- Teacher candidates have Professional Practice Seminar every other Tuesday beginning January 4.
- During university finals week, teacher candidates may have some university coursework responsibilities, and they should observe other teachers
During the last week, Cooperating Teachers will submit to UW Bothell a signed letter of recommendation to document successful completion of the student teaching course and recommendation for certification
Spring Quarter 2011
Teacher Candidates are certified at the end of Winter quarter and are available to substitute while they finish coursework for the M.Ed.
