North Counties RN-BSN Program in Mount Vernon
Prospective Students
The RN-to-BSN Program is for nurses who have completed an Associates or Diploma nursing program, have their RN license already or who will take the NCLEX-RN exam and earn their license by the end of their first quarter at UW Bothell, and who desire to earn their BSN.
Prospective UW Bothell students who want to become nurses should be aware that UW Bothell offers neither an initial nursing degree program nor many of the required prerequisite courses to enter an initial nursing degree program. Please read the available information about where you can earn an initial nursing degree and prepare to transfer to UW Bothell.
Program Location and Class Day
Classes are held in Mount Vernon on Mondays. Classes are held in Laura Angst Hall at Skagit Valley College.
Program Start
A new nursing class is admitted to start in Autumn quarter (September). If you are interested in applying, application details are available in the admissions section. Prospective students who desire to start at other times may be admitted as Pre-BSN students, and are then eligible to take the required non-Nursing electives or complete admission requirements for full admission to the Nursing Program.
Program Completion
The Mount Vernon BSN program is designed to be completed in five quarters.
Students can complete the program in four quarters by one of two methods:
- if they enroll as a Pre-BSN student for the Summer quarter prior to their autum quarter start, in order to to take the non-Nursing elective offered in the Summer at Mount Vernon
- or by picking up an extra non-Nursing elective class during the school year on the Bothell campus.

How the Program Works
To earn your BSN at UW Bothell, you must complete 30 credits of core Nursing classes and 15 credits of required UW Bothell non-Nursing elective courses. If you are admitted with missing UW Bothell admission, general education, or nursing prerequisite course requirements, those will also need to be completed before graduation. You need to earn at least 180 credits for the BSN, and the breakdown of credits is:
90 Transfer credits
45 NCLEX exam credits
30 Upper-division nursing credits
15 Required UW Bothell electives credits
180 Total credits for the BSN degree

What Students Will Learn
The UW Bothell RN-to-BSN Program and the UW Seattle School of Nursing share common accreditation with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE). Therefore we also share common BSN learning goals. Our goals for BSN education are to prepare our graduates to :
- Integrate concepts from the Arts and Sciences in promoting health and managing complex nursing care situations.
- Apply leadership concepts, skills, and decision making in the provision, and oversight of nursing practice in a variety of settings.
- Translate principles of patient safety and quality improvement into the delivery of high quality of care.
- Appraise, critically summarize and translate current evidence into nursing practice.
- Integrate knowledge, processes, and skills from nursing science; information and patient care technologies; and communication tools to facilitate clinical decision-making, and the delivery of safe and effective nursing care.
- Describe the effects of health policy, economic, legal, political, and socio-cultural factors on the delivery of and advocacy for equitable health care.
- Demonstrate effective professional communication and collaboration to optimize health outcomes.
- Deliver and advocate for health promotion and disease prevention strategies at the individual, family, community and population levels.
- Demonstrate value-based, professional behaviors that integrate altruism, autonomy, integrity, social justice and respect for diversity and human dignity.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, clinical decision making, and psychomotor skills necessary for the delivery of competent, evidence-based, holistic, and compassionate care to patients across the life span.

History
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion program was developed by the University of Washington Seattle's School of Nursing and was first offered in our North Counties location in Mount Vernon in Autumn 2007. Classes are offered on Mondays in Mount Vernon.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, as part of the University of Washington School of Nursing, and awards a University of Washington degree.
