The Critical Legal and Prison Studies Research Interest Group is dedicated to interdisciplinary scholarly analyses of the law. Our work focuses on the treatment of people at all levels of encounter with the criminal justice system, including the social and medical treatment of people inside prisons as well as the political ideas and actions of currently and formerly incarcerated people. Our interests are historical and contemporary, local and global, and our group is informed by our diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
The Research Interest Group is a space for us to share our works in progress with the following goals in mind:
1) To support one another’s existing writing projects through peer review
2) To develop new avenues for research about issues pertaining to criminalization and incarceration
3) To think collaboratively about the community impact of such scholarship
4) To spread greater awareness of and engagement with these issues on our campus and within our respective professional associations.
