How to Apply for Professional Certification

 

The following admissions and application information is for applicants to the Professional Certificate Program only.

Applicants interested in participating in the combined Master of Education and Professional Certificate program should refer to the Master of Education Admission and Application information.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Professional Certificate Program at the University of Washington, Bothell, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Simultaneously admitted as a non-matriculated student to the Graduate School of the University of Washington
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 3.0 GPA in the last 90 quarter credits or 60 semester credits of graded upper-division coursework
  • Washington State Residency Certification
  • Contract to teach in a public or State Board of Education approved private school
  • Completion of provisional status employment in a school district or approved private school (can be waived with a statement from the employing school or school district supporting the teacher candidate's enrollment in the ProCert program)

Application Materials

It is very important to submit application documents by the deadlines listed in the box above. In addition to the completed application form, the following are required:

  • Graduate Non-Matriculated Application and $60 application fee
  • Two copies of official transcripts for the undergraduate degree institution. For transcripts to be official, they must be submitted in original sealed envelopes.
  • Resume
  • Admission essay addressing the following questions:
    • What do you see as the greatest strengths of your teaching practice?
    • On what areas would you like to focus for professional development?
    • How did you choose the University of Washington, Bothell for your Professional Certificate program?
  • A copy of your Washington State residency certificate
  • A copy of your current teaching contract
  • Completed copy of the Provisional Status/Employer Support Verfication form or verification of completion of provisional status

Application Checklist

Graduate Non-Matriculated Application (When you are prompted to "select a graduate program", select "Education-Bothell Campus" from the drop down menu (V-BEDUC). The $60 application fee can not be paid online and must be mailed with a copy of the completed application.)

Provisional Status Employer Support Verification Form

Professional Certificate Application Fee (payable to the E.S.D. This is in addition to the graduate application fee.)
