2012 Husky Adventures
What is a Husky Adventure?
Husky Adventures are events created for new students. Husky Adventures will occur the day following Freshman Orientaiton in June, July, and August. We will also have a Husky Adventure in September before classes start. We will also have four more Husky Adventures throughout autumn quarter. Location of Husky Adventures vary, most take place on or near the UW-Bothell campus. Husky Adventures are free or have a small cost, so there's no excuse!
Fall 2012 Husky Adventures:
Autumn Fright Night- October 18th
Do you like pumpkin pie? Or pumpkin seeds? What about pumpkin bread? Maybe you just like all things pumpkin? Join us on Thursday, October 18th, from 4:30pm-8:30pm for the first fall Husky Adventure! Our Husky Adventure will begin as we relive our childhood and carve pumpkins while learning about their health benefits from the campus HEROs. After some delicious autumn treats, we will carpool out to Stocker Farms in Snohomish to take part in their infamous haunted corn maze! Tickets will be $5 each adn will be on sale at the cahsier's office or in the commons. Grab your friends and have a great time carving pumpkins and getting into the spooky spirit! And you think midterms are scary?!
Seattle Underground - November 9th
Come adventure with us on November 9th, 2012 as we explore Seattle's Pioneer Square District and dive deep beneath the streets on the Seattle Underground Tour. We will meet up on Campus at about 3:30 to take the bus to Seattle. This tour will allow us to explore the old store fronts and sidewalks that people used to use before the Great Fire of 1889. Whether you have grown up in Seattle your entire life or you have never been to the city, we promise you will have a blast learning about Seattle's history! Along the way we will encounter six flights of stairs and uneven terrain so come prepared wearing comfortable shoes!
Ugly Sweater Ice Skating - December 7th
Preparing for finals getting you heated? Come cool down at Ugly Sweater Ice Skating on December 7th from 7:45pm-10:15pm! Along with skating and cocoa there will be a gingerbread house decorating contest in which the winning team will win prizes! We will cover part of the admission cost so all you have to pay is $2 for admission and $3 for skate rental! Tickets can be purchased at the cashier's office. This is a great opportunity to form study groups for finals and learn work strategies for handling finals. Countless studies show that taking a physical and mental break between school-work returns a better final result on tests, papers, presentations, etc. Come take that break with your fellow students and orientation leaders!
Summer 2012 Husky Adventures:
Power to the Player - June 22nd
Come and enjoy an action-packed afternoon at Game Zone located in Lynwood, Washington. Game zone is essentially today's version of an arcade that uses Xbox and PC to play games on. They have 20 computers and 10 Xbox 360s set up at all times, which can be used to play online or on-site multiplayer. Both the gaming systems have 15-20 games available to play, but you are welcome to bring your own games, hard drives and controllers if you would like!! This facility regularly hosts tournaments and events for games including StarCraft, League of Legends, Halo, Smash Bros, Street Fighter, and other fighting games.Pizza and refreshments will be provided so come join us in playing video games while getting to know your fellow Freshman classmates!!!
Bothell through the Lens - July 13th
Love photography? Want to explore the Bothell Community and find cool quirky places? Enjoy teaming up with people and competing in scavenger hunts? Enticed by free food? You can do all of these and more at the Bothell through the Lens Husky Adventure! During the July 13th parent orientation from 10-2PM, students can partcipate in a photography scavenger hunt around the downtown Bothell community. Students will meet in front of the Commons and recieve cameras from the Information Technologies Department. They will then split into groups and compete with other students by trying to find a list of unique locations in the Bothell community. Every location will be in walking distance and maps of boundaries will be provided. The teams will be given three hours to find all of the locations. The team with the most locations found and photographed by the end of the time limit will win! In addition, there will be awards for the funniest and most artistic photos. Following the scavenger hunt there will be a free catered lunch from Qdoba in the commons. While we eat, there will be a slideshow of people's photos playing on the projector. We guarentee you will have fun, learn about Bothell, get fed, and most importantly, meet fellow students!
Roll-A-Day - August 18th
We know that college can be a stressful transition, so come and release some anxiety with us at Lynwood Bowl & Skate on August 18th. Roller skating was a popular recreational activity in the 1970s and 1980s which is fun and easy to learn. Beginners are definitely welcome! Sign up is required and there are limited spots available on a first-come first serve basis.
Husky Z-Games - September 15th
Get ready for the one, the only, Husky Z-Games!
Is your lifelong ambition to catch the Golden Snitch like Harry Potter? Are you a foosball master? Well then, get your competitive spirit and try your skills as you participate in events such as human foosball, live Quidditch, ultimate Frisbee, and much more! Cool down after these intense games with a group picnic with food and drinks provided by... your Orientation Leaders! This is the end of summer field day extravaganza you won't want to miss!
