UW Bothell Graduates First Class of Master of Arts in Cultural Studies Students

BOTHELL, Wash. – The University of Washington Bothell graduated its first class of Master of Arts in Cultural Studies students this June. Housed in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, the unique program is the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and one of few in the nation to combine the critical study of art and culture with an emphasis on community-based learning and scholarship.
13 inaugural students received their MA in Cultural Studies degrees at UW Bothell’s 2010 Commencement Ceremony:

As part of the Cultural Studies curriculum, students produced capstone projects grounded in research they conducted during the second of the two years of the program. Examples of capstone projects included a program evaluation for a children’s museum, an ethnographic film located in Brazil, and the launch of “Nietszche: The Musical” at the Pike Place Market Theatre.
Bruce Burgett, Director of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and one of the architects of the program says, “We are thrilled with the capstone projects completed by our first group of students. The success of the program is a direct result of the quality and impact of these projects and the creative and engaged work of the students.”
