New academic opportunities are on the horizon, guided by the 21st Century Campus Initiative, UW Bothell's plan for growth to serve student, community and state needs. The new degrees listed below are approved to launch throughout the coming year, and additional programs are in development, subject to HECB approval. The Leadership Master of Business Administration in Bellevue is designed for aspiring leaders from diverse functional backgrounds and industries. The program provides students with the tools necessary to manage and lead. Students develop analytical competence, business acumen and emotional and social intelligence in order to effectively lead people in their organization.
The Master of Science in Computing and Software Systems is designed to launch or accelerate careers in the computing professions. By coupling advanced computing concepts with a broad educational philosophy, our students learn to apply software solutions to a wide range of real-world problems. Our graduates will find opportunities for highly paid positions in sectors such as software development, biotech, medicine, aerospace, entertainment, and finance. Courses are offered on a part-time basis, to meet the needs of working professionals.
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering provides students with a rigorous learning experience in the fundamentals and applications of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism in a multidisciplinary learning environment stressing design, teamwork, ethics, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility. Classes are offered both online and on-site to serve working students, as well as students from remote areas of the state and those who desire a non-traditional program of study. Modeled after ABET-approved programs, the BSEE will prepare students to meet the critical needs of technology-dependent employers in the Puget Sound region.
Note: The BSEE will launch in Winter 2010. Students interested in pursuing the degree are encouraged to begin satisfying core or elective courses in Fall 2009.

The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (EDL) will integrate scholarly study of schooling and leadership with skill development for the practical professional challenges of leading Pre-K-12 schools. As a fully integrated program, EDL includes all requirements for Washington's residency principal certification as well as the requirements for the M.Ed. degree.
These current options within the Interdisciplinary Studies program will launch as separate BA degrees in Autumn 2010.
American Studies investigates the diverse cultures of the groups and individuals who live within and across the shifting borders of the United States and the Americas. AMS includes coursework in fields including history, anthropology, literature, cultural studies, film studies, sociology, ethnic studies, and gender studies.

Community Psychology provides rigorous academic preparation for students who wish to pursue careers in human services, community development mental health, family and youth programs, counseling, prevention, program evaluation, community arts, multicultural program development, and human relations.

Culture, Literature and the Arts is designed for students interested in integrative work across the humanities and arts. It addresses a wide range of student interests in the fields of art history, performance studies, literature, and creative writing, among others.

Environmental Studies is designed to teach students to integrate environmental knowledge across the natural and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities.

Global Studies is designed for students interested in international environmental, economic, and political questions. Graduates are well-equipped to pursue professional careers or advanced study in public policy, business, international relations, community and non-governmental organizations, law, education, media and cultural studies, and area studies.

Interdisciplinary Arts is designed for students who want to create art and to learn about the world through the creative arts. It links written, visual, media, and performance arts, and explores meaning and potential arts making across diverse social and cultural settings.

Society, Ethics and Human Behavior is designed for students interested in integrative work across sociology, psychology, and ethics. It also meets student interests in a range of interdisciplines: gender studies, media studies, and ethnic studies, among others.

The Media and Communication Studies option will provide students with a solid grounding in media and communication theory and history while also giving them an opportunity to experience the practice and production side of the field. Students will learn how to become critical practitioners, able to engage in the production and practice of communication while also being capable of critiquing that production and practice.
NOTE: MCS will launch in Autumn Quarter, 2010. Students interested in pursuing this option are encouraged to begin satisfying core and elective requirements during the 2009-10 academic year.

The Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration - Bellevue is uniquely suited to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in the Puget Sound region. The program provides a solid foundation in business theory, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills and will serve traditional undergraduate students as well as non-traditional students who are working or residing in Bellevue, Redmond, and surrounding communities.

The BA in Interactive Media and Technology will combine science and technology with creative and entrepreneurial disciplines to prepare students to use digital media and technology in a wide variety of fields. Built on an interdisciplinary foundation, the program will emphasize project based coursework.

The BS in Biology will combine theory and classroom learning with research and hands-on experience to prepare students for career paths in health and medicine, research, education, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, sustainability and other fields. Classes will feature the integrative, problem-based approaches that are a hallmark of a UW Bothell education.

The RN-to-BSN Program is for nurses who have completed an Associates or Diploma nursing program, have their RN license already or who will take the NCLEX-RN exam and earn their license by the end of their first quarter at UW Bothell, and who desire to earn their BSN. This program will be in collaboration with Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.
The BS in Climate Science and Policy will integrate fundamental courses in the sciences with courses in policy to produce graduates who are ready to tackle one of society's most challenging issues in the 21st century - climate change. The program has two tracks: 1) a science track with a focus on advanced climate modeling, and 2) a policy track with a focus on advanced policy studies. Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers in government, private and non-profit sectors or may wish to continue on to graduate school in either science or policy.

The MFA in Creative Writing and Poetic Culture will provide a broad interdisciplinary inquiry into creative writing within a changing culture and society. The program will ask students to address the implications of what and how they write--situating their writing in relationship to shifting global contexts; changing demographics; and transforming forms of media. The program will include options for hybrid delivery in the second year.

The Minor in Biomedical Technology will provide an opportunity for students to acquire skills, competencies, and experiences that will enable them to pursue careers in the biotechnology, biomedical device, pharmaceutical, and related industries.
The Minor in Physics and Astronomy will provide an opportunity for students to acquire skills, competencies, and experiences that will enable them to pursue careers in physics, astronomy, and a variety of sciences. Graduates with this minor will be able to skillfully perform and understand general science for use in graduate school, professional school, and industry.
The Minor in Science, Creativity and Consciousness will allow students to participate in conversations across disciplines and programs around strategies for cultivating creativity, approaching consciousness from an integral perspective, and enhancing awareness of different ways of knowing that span cultures and history.
