Instant Messaging

The instant messaging applications in this section provide the ability for two-way communication between people in real-time, either through text, voice, and or video. The basic requirements include a computer with a fast internet connection, a microphone, and a webcam. This is an ideal solution for quick or less formal meetings between a student and an instructor in distance education. Web conferencing sites are alternatives to instant messaging applications that do not usually require you to install any software and may include features like screen sharing, but may lack in actual video quality. For a more formal event, see the videoconferencing service provided by the Campus Media Center.
