Catalyst is a suite of online tools provided by the University of Washington to its students and faculty as an aid in teaching, learning, researching, and working. Many of these tools can be used in conjunction with Blackboard if desired. Catalyst also provides a number of online computer-related tutorials and information.
Catalyst Web Tools:
- Collect It: makes online homework turn-in simple - create a dropbox, create assignments, add participants, and you're done!
- CommonView: create course, project, or work group workspaces where you can add, organize, and share resources like Catalyst Tools, files, links, and images.
- File Manager: upload, download, and work with files from any Internet-connected computer through your Web browser.
- GoPost: easy-to-create forum boards provide an ideal way to discuss topics with peers, create online communities, and support collaboration.
- GradeBook: create grade books that save, track, and securely publish student scores, and calculate class grades.
- Group Manager: helps you keep track of your students' work and protect your Catalyst Tools from unauthorized use by restricting access.
- Portfolio: allows you to collect, annotate, arrange, and display a variety of digital artifacts (files) that illustrate your accomplishments throughout your years at the University of Washington.
- Portfolio Project Builder: is an instructor interface, which complements the Portfolio tool, that allows you to guide students through the process of creating and organizing online portfolios.
- QuickPoll: quickly administer one-question polls and immediately view graphic results with this tool.
- ShareSpaces: allows a group of people to share files with each others. Features include being able to upload new versions with comments, track files with versioning, and receiving email notification of changes.
- SimpleSite: is a web-based tool that lets you develop, edit, and administer web sites associated with your UW NetID account.
- UMail: allows you to create a web-based form that will allow others to send messages directly to the email address(es) that you specify.
- WebQ: create online surveys and quizzes with this tool to gather information for your research or to assess student learning for a course. The results may be viewed online or downloaded in several different file formats.
