This page covers how to create links in Blackboard. There are three types of links in Blackboard 9.1, external links which go to a website outside of Blackboard, course links which link to different sections with your Blackboard course, and a tool link which links to a tool (eg. discussion board, blog).
In Blackboard 9.1, you have the option of creating a link directly on the course navigation menu in the left sidebar or on a separate course content page.
If you have a number of links to post, it is best to create a separate course content page to place your links rather than creating them in the space-limited navigation menu.
Create Link in Navigation Menu
The navigation menu on the left is seen on all pages within your site so links placed here should be ones that are frequently accessed to reduce clutter in this space limited area.
To create a link in the navigation menu, hover your cursor over the + button at the top of the navigation menu. A pop-up menu should appear.

Let's say you want to create a tool link, select tool link from the pop-up menu. A message box will appear prompting you to select a tool to link to.

Click okay and a link will be created in the navigation menu.
Creating Links in a Course Content Area
First, make sure you have created a course content area by clicking on the + button on the navigation menu and giving it an appropriate name.
Within the course content area, hover over the Build Content button. A menu will pop-up.

Let's say you want to create an external link or URL. Select the create URL link from the menu bar. You will be directed to a page where you can enter the name for the link and the URL as well as give a short description.

Click on Submit and a link will be created in the course content page. If you wish to edit the link once it has been created, simply hover your cursor over the chevron button and select Edit.
