Creating New Folders
You can organize a large number of items in a single content area by separating them with folders. To place items within a folder, create the folders first, then add items within them. The following steps will provide you with information on how to do that:
- Choose which content area you'd like the folder in by selecting and entering one from the content area menu.
- Hover the mouse over the Build Content button. From the menu that appears, select Content Folder in the middle column of the menu.

- Type the name of the folder in the Name field and a brief description of its contents in the Text field.

- Under Default Content View, customize how you would like the link to this folder to appear (icon only, text only, text and icon).
- Select Yes for Make the content available to let students view this folder. You may wish to select No if you are preparing a folder in advance and do not want your students to see it just yet.
- Select No for Track number of views if you do not need Blackboard to collect usage data. Otherwise, change the selection to Yes.
- Choose date and time restrictions makes a folder appear on the Blackboard course page during a specified time period. Simply check the box(s) which you wish to apply and set their date and time. You still have to select Yes for Make the content available if you wish to use this feature.

Moving and Copying Items to Folders
You can also move previously created items into a folder. This method should only be used if you decide to use the folders after you have started adding content to your course page. Follow these instructions to do so:
- First, locate the file you wish to copy or move. Once you have found it, click the item options button next to the item's name.
- Choosing to copy the item will duplicate and send the item elsewhere. If you would like to copy the item, click Copy.
- Choosing to move the item will send the item elsewhere, but will not duplicate it. If you would like to move the item, click Move.

- After selecting either option, you will be redirected to a page asking where you would like the file to go. Choose the appropriate course, then click Browse to select the particular destination folder. When you are finished, click Submit.
