Log and Transfer from Canon Vixia (.MTS format) to Final Cut Pro 7

Connecting the Canon Vixia to the computer
Connect the camera to the computer via USB cable.
Press the POWER button on top of the camera.
Switch the camera to PLAY mode. Pressing this button again will switch back to VIDEO mode.

Notice the dialog box on the Canon Vixia screen “Select the memory for connection”. Press the bottom selection “Built-in Memory” if the footage is on the internal hard drive, or, if the footage is stored on an SD card(s), select the appropriate card slot, i.e. “Mem. Card A” or Mem. Card B”.
Log and Transfer footage into Final Cut Pro
Open Final Cut Pro
Once Final Cut Pro is open, from the top menu, select: FILE > LOG AND TRANSFER.
When the Log and Transfer window is open, notice the footage appears as clips in the window on the left. A preview of the clip appears in the right window for browsing the clips before the transfer.
Before dragging and dropping the clips into the “Drag Media Here” Box, select the settings icon above the clips. Check that the import preference of the AVCHD Plugin is set to Apple Intermediate Codec before the log and transfer process begins.
Now drag the clips to the window below to automatically begin the Log and Transfer process.
Once footage is dragged into the lower window, the Log and Transfer process will begin automatically.
Notice that after the Log and Transfer that the Media window in Final Cut Pro has the clips that have been Logged and Transferred.
Once finished with the Log and Transfer, the Log and Transfer window can be closed. Clips are now ready to bring into the timeline in Final Cut Pro, and appear in the media window.
Eject the Canon Vixia camera when the log and transfer process is completed. The camera appears as a Drive on the desktop. Press the eject button to the right of the drive in the Finder window, or click and drag the drive into the Trash at the bottom right of the menu icons at the base of the screen which ejects the drive.
