Problem
There is a compatibility issue between Blackboard and Internet Explorer 8 in which students cannot submit timed tests and quizzes, because the timer box covers up the button.
Solution
Turn on "Compatibility Mode" in Internet Explorer 8 before beginning the timed assessment. To turn on Compatibility Mode, go to Tools > Compatibility View from the browser's toolbar or click on the Compatibility Mode button located between the web address bar and the refresh button at the top. See Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8: Faster and easier for more information about Compatibility Mode.
Problem
Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and other related browsers will not delete a discussion board post even after you confirm that it should be deleted (this applies to discussion board moderators or when post deleting is enabled for students).
Solution
A workaround for Windows users is to use Internet Explorer to delete posts. Apple users must delete the comments by checking them in Tree View and then clicking the delete button. Alternatively, you can modify the post and erase its contents.
Problem
The upload script in Blackboard may be unable to recognize your browser properly, especially if it is new or uncommon. Support for new browsers that gain popularity should be added in the following service pack.
Solution
To solve this problem, users should use a supported Blackboard browser:
- Internet Explorer 7
- Internet Explorer 8 under Compatibility Mode
- Firefox 2
- Firefox 3.5
