Accessing Content Areas and Edit View

To add new or change existing content on a Blackboard course, go to the Edit View screen of a content area. There are two ways to get there:

  • Go to Control Panel > Content Areas > Syllabus, Course Documents, Assignments, External Links, or another content area.

  • Select Syllabus, Course Documents, Assignments, External Links , or another content area from the main Blackboard menu (the green frame on the left) and then click on Edit View in the top right corner.

These are the types of content you can add from the Edit View screen:

  • Click +Item to add a course document or reading for students to see.
  • Click +Folder to create a folder. Use folders to organize content areas. Create the folder first and then click on the folder's name to add items within the folder. You can also copy existing material into a folder by using the Copy button next to each document.
  • Click +Course Link to link to another section of a Blackboard course.
  • Click +Test to create and administrate an online exam.
  • Select Assignment and click Go to add an assignment for students, which would create a link that allows students to electronically submit their work.
  • Select Syllabus and click Go to create a course syllabus. Use this to provide an introduction, learning objectives, and set students expectations for a course.

Note: Content areas are not restricted to a single content type (e.g. a syllabus document can be put in the external links area), but it's important to be consistent about where course material is placed to minimize confusion among students.

You can also change the order of, Modify, Manage, Copy, or Remove items from the Edit View screen.
