The UW Bothell Education Program offers two Middle Level endorsements: Math/Science and Humanities.

Adding a Middle Level endorsement to a current certificate enables an individual to teach grades four through nine in Washington State. This endorsement is available for both practicing teachers and current students in our K-8 Teacher Certification Program.
Endorsement Pathways for Certified Teachers
UW Bothell Education Program offers two pathways that lead to adding a Middle Level endorsement to a Teaching Certificate:
- Pathway 3 WEST-E testing and pedagogy assessment - available to students in UW Bothell K-8 Teacher Certification Program.
- Pathway 2 WEST-E testing and pedagogy assessment - available to teachers with at least 90 days experience and current Washington State teaching certificates and endorsements in related areas (OSPI chart of related endorsements).
Pathway options for Middle Level endorsements vary based on your experience and current certification.

WEST-E Testing Requirements
All candidates for Middle Level endorsements are required to pass the appropriate WEST-E test. (For more information on the WEST-E tests, please visit the WEST-E Website)
The following is a list of the corresponding WEST-E test numbers.
- Middle Level Humanities 010 and 011
- Middle Level Math 012
- Middle Level Science 013
Pedagogy Assessment/Field Observation
All UW Bothell Education Program candidates for Middle Level endorsements will be observed teaching in a Middle School classroom setting. Education Program Field Instructors will perform these observations and candidates must successfully complete the pedagogy performance assessment over two observations.

Coursework for the Middle Level Endorsement
Candidates in either Pathway 2 or 3 must successfully complete the following Middle Level methods course:
BEDUC 480: Life and Learning in the Middle School- 3 credits

BEDUC 480 is offered annually in Autumn and Spring terms (see Time Schedule).
How to Apply
If you want to pursue a Middle Level endorsement in Math, Science or Humanities, you must contact the Program Officer, Jon Howeiler (425-352-5231). Required Pathway 2 Forms (to complete prior to administration of Pedagogy Assessment).
Students currently enrolled in the UW Bothell K-8 Teacher Certification Program may pursue a Middle Level endorsement in conjunction with their current program.
All other candidates for a Middle Level endorsement (including students currently in the UW Bothell Master of Education program) must complete an initial adivising appointment with the program officer.
