Teaching
I believe in a cooperative model of teaching. In other words, I position myself not as the expert, but the guide who helps my students navigate the complex terrain of critical inquiry. In this, I am often led to new horizons of thought and intellectual discovery.
Although I am trained American literature, my research and teaching interests span English, Women Studies, American Ethnic Studies, Cultural Studies and Performance Studies. I teach primarily through a cultural studies lens. Since cultural studies entails an examination of how cultural objects produce and reproduce power, I find this approach key to facilitating socio-political inquiry in the classroom and promoting social justice pedagogy.
