The University of Washington Living-Learning Communities (LLC) program is a joint partnership between Student and Residential Life and the Center for University Studies and Programs (CUSP). Under the leadership of these units, the LLC program will seek out additional partners to create an engaging and intellectually rich experience for students living in campus housing that will extend student learning outside of the classroom and into the everyday lives of first year students. These theme based communities will integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences that will enhance the social and personal growth of residents.
Students will enjoy the usual perks of living in campus housing, but will also benefit from living with other students who share similar interests. Students will have a greater opportunity to get to know their faculty and develop a strong sense of community among their peers. LLC students will also be able to register for their Discovery Core classes prior to other students and will have access to specialized programs and activities. In addition, LLC students will have the additional academic support that comes with group study sessions.
2012-13 Theme: Global Learning
Global Learning:: This community is intended to challenge and motivate students, whose interests, experiences, and aspirations have a strong international and multi-cultural component, including students planning international majors/minors, interested in international business, study abroad or international service. Global Learning accommodates about 30 students in Oak Hall at Husky Village. The community includes students from countries all around the world that are interested in a mutual exchange of culture and ideas. Global Learning is an excellent environment for international students to experience the United States.

2012-13 Theme: Science and Technology
Science and Technology: Located in Campus View, this community is intended for those students who have a passion for innovation and discovery in the fields of science and technology. The Science and Technology LLC can accommodate up to 40 students. This community has students interested in environmental and biological sciences, as well us electrical engineering, math, physics, computing & software systems, and video game technology.

- Q:What is the time commitment for an LLC?
- A:Most LLC’s have a monthly meeting that lasts for 2 hours, and most communities participate in another group activity during the week. You can expect a total commitment of approximately 2 hours a week.
- Q:Can my roommate live with me if they are not a member of the LLC?
- A:No. Only students who have applied and been accepted into the same LLC are allowed to room together.
- Q:Can I select my room in an LLC?
- A:No. At this time, room assignments are made by campus housing staff.
- Q:What are my chances of getting accepted into an LLC?
- A:Everyone has an equal chance although we do recommend applying as soon as possible as spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
- Q:How do I increase my chances of being selected?
- A:There is no way to increase your chances.
- Q:Do LLC’s require any work over the summer?
- A:Possibly, depending on your community, you may be assigned a common book or some other common activity or experience.

- Q:Are there any additional costs to live in a LLC?
- A:No.
- Q:How many students are in each community?
- A:There are between 10 and 40 students in each LLC, depending on the interest.
- Q:Do I have to take a class to be a part of a LLC?
- A:No, but we highly encourage you to take a Discovery Core that is related to your LLC theme. A benefit to being a part of a LLC, is that you will be able to register for a Discovery Core class that is related to your LLC theme, prior to other students.
- Q:I haven’t received a confirmation, how long does it take to be notified?
- A:You will be notified if you are assigned to an LLC with your housing offer sent out in late June.
