Global Close to Home

Off Campus Opportunities

My life has been forever changed after my time in Zambia. When you meet people who materialistically have nothing compared to you, but spiritually and emotionally are the happiest people that you have ever met, things can never be the same.Stephanie Bickler, Class of 2011

Building on her Exploration Seminar experience in Zambia, Stephanie continued her involvement in Africa through an internship with Stirring the Fire, a non-profit working on behalf of women’s rights, and then as co-leader of the 2012 Exploration Seminar to Ethiopia. She recently accepted a position as the Director of Engagement and Operations at the Mona Foundation, a Bellevue-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting grassroots educational initiatives and raising the status of women and girls worldwide, and Stirring the Fire has an emerging student chapter on the UWB campus.

View Global Close to Home Resources in a larger map

The Global Close to Home map serves as a resource tool for UW Bothell students interested in engaging - as volunteers or interns - with organizations in different fields that focus on intercultural and global competencies. Each icon on the map represents a different category of organization, grouped either by mission or world region. Multinational or global organizations are pinned in Washington State. Organizations based in Seattle that serve a specific region of the world are pinned to that region. There is also a comprehensive spreadsheet that specifies existing volunteer and internship opportunities.

Volunteering

Many international non-profit organizations and associations in the region would appreciate your help in advancing their mission. Browse the organizations’ websites for more information or utilize the volunteer resources listed on the CBLR website.
