Budget and Planning

Bill Kelleher, Director of Finance and Administration, gave a presentation on the campus budgeting processes. There are three primary processes associated with budgeting: our Higher Education Coordinating Board proposals; our capital plans; and enrollment/operating budgets. Planning for a given biennium begins approximately 18 months in advance with the Chancellor's Cabinet and the Academic Council. Our budget request also goes through the Seattle campus. At the present time, the Governor's budget calls for 70 additional FTEs for UW Bothell over the next biennium.

Bill distributed information regarding the permanent and carryforward budget, account distribution and program category, and the current revenue and expenditure authority. This information was for general operating funds, not grants.

Tri Campus Council

Jack Meszaros asked for nominations of three people to serve on the Tri Campus Council. The EC recommended Jack, Carol Leppa and the vice chair of the General Faculty Organization.

Bachelor of Science Degree

Martha Groom reported that although a few students will be starting their Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science in the fall, the program won't begin officially recruiting students until Autumn of 2002.

Distinguished Lecturer Event

Patti Bellecy announced that the posters and postcards for the Distinguished Lecture events have been distributed. We already have received responses from 14 UW President Cub members (those who have donated $2000+ to the University), representatives from Seattle Central Community College, South Seattle Community College and people from the neighboring businesses.

GFO Restructuring

Dan Jacoby distributed a copy of a memorandum from Linda Westbrook regarding recommendations for restructuring of the GFO. Dan asked the EC members to let him know by Monday any comments they have on Linda's memo or the restructuring.
