Building Concerns

The key card system is still being tested. Bill Kelleher asked that anyone having problems with the exterior access let Tony Spaziano, Manager of the Security Office, know. The entire building will be re-keyed in the future.

The Building Advisory Committee, consisting of representatives from the General Faculty Organization, academic departments and major administrative areas, will be reconstituted.

Several possible safety issues are being investigated and improvements are being sought.

Faculty Affairs Committee

The Faculty Affairs Committee is reviewing the make-up of the Executive Council regarding what functions it takes on and how the committee is elected. Dan Jacoby distributed a memo from him to the Faculty Affairs committee requesting that the campus create some openings in the academic schedule during which departments and faculty committees can meet.

Visioning Process

Ray Lou described the visioning process he and Warren Buck are working on, which was begun last year, to set the direction for the foreseeable future. There are three components: mission statement, vision statement, and statement of values. Dr. Lou indicated that he hoped to have a draft statement of the three components by the end of Winter Quarter. Dr. Jacoby suggested devoting part of a GFO meeting to this. Dr. Sikma suggested appointing a task force early in quarter which would work with EC in preparation for special meeting on this topic. The task force should include a faculty representative from each program who is in touch with the issues, plus a student and staff representative.
