After listening to Vice Chancellor Ray Lou, the Executive Council supported a cross enrollment policy between the community colleges and us. It was suggested that a trial period be established, subject to some definite limits:
a. permission of the instructor.
b. completion of appropriate prerequisites designated by program faculty.
c. limits on the number of non-matriculated courses students might take.
d. limits on the ratio of non-matriculated to matriculated students.
e. enrollment limited to courses identified by program faculty.
Additional concerns noted included:
a. Who would do advising, and how?
b. What would space available mean? Would there be any notification prior to classes to make class size predictable for faculty, provide
assurance of admission to students seeking registration?
c. Cross-enrollment should not increase "academic swirl."
d. Running Start students should not be encouraged.
e. Develop some kind of monitoring committee.
f. Ensure program level input into decisions.
A number of additional benefits were noted:
a. Permit program articulation
b. Encourage cross-enrollments from cc's with whom we have articulation arrangements
c. Help create a pathway for potential teacher certification students
Input from faculty will be necessary.
