		<title>CSS Professor Clark Olson on Sabbatical</title>

		<description>Dr. Clark Olson is on sabbatical for the 08-09 academic year. During his leave, Dr. Olson will be collaborating with researchers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) on computer vision research.  JPL has been developing a system for aerial mapping and recognition using multiple high-resolution cameras.  Dr. Olson's research helps make it possible to construct three -dimensional maps and to perform recognition and tracking in the images.  The results of this joint research venture will impact many various fields including geographical information systems, environmental management, consumer mapping websites, and aerial surveillance.

		<title>CSS Professor Munehiro Fukuda on Sabbatical</title>

		<description>Dr. Munehiro Fukuda is visiting four research organizations in Portugal, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States in order to pursue two research goals: parallelizing various applications on top of his grid-computing middleware named AgentTeamwork and to explore new collaborative research projects on software environments that support multi-core processors.  At Lisbon, Dr. Fukuda enabled an online war game to run its different strategic scenarios in parallel.  At Keio University in Japan, he is parallelizing the data search and analyzing components of his collaborators' multimedia database system, currently shaping and idea to offload such data analysis of a serve onto multi-core clients. Dr. Fukuda will continue his work in this field by visiting a mobile-agent research team at the University of California, Irvine in April.

		<description>Dr. Michael Stiber, Professor in the Computing &amp; Software Systems Program (CSS) at UW Bothell has accepted the position of Director of the CSS Program.  Dr. Stiber has served as Associate Professor in CSS since 1997.  His research areas focus on the intersection of Biology and Computer Science, investigating how biological systems can perform everyday computations.  As the new academic year begins, Dr. Stiber will lead CSS in its involvement with the 21st Campus Initiative, creation of a new Science and Technology Program and many more changes to come as the UW Bothell campus continues its innovative development.
