The UW Bothell Education Program offers two Middle Level endorsements: Math/Science and Humanities.
Adding a Middle Level endorsement to a current certificate enables an individual to teach grades four through nine in Washington State. This endorsement is available for both practicing teachers and current students in our K-8 Teacher Certification Program.
For detailed information and advising contact Jon Howeiler, Program Officer for Field Experiences and Certification, at 425-352-5231.
UW Bothell Education Program offers two pathways that lead to adding a Middle Level endorsement to a Teaching Certificate:
Pathway options for Middle Level endorsements vary based on your experience and current certification. Please contact Jon Howeiler, Program Officer, at 425-352-5231, if you are considering pursuing a Middle Level endorsement through the UW Bothell Education Program.
You can also visit the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) website for more information on pathways to earning endorsements.
All candidates for Middle Level endorsements are required to pass the appropriate WEST-E/Praxis II tests. (For more information on the WEST-E/Praxis II tests, please visit WEST-E/Praxis Series Website)
The following is a list of the corresponding WEST-E/Praxis II test numbers.
All UW Bothell Education Program candidates for Middle Level endorsements will be observed teaching in a Middle School classroom setting. Education Program Field Instructors will perform these observations and candidates must successfully complete the pedagogy performance assessment over two
observations.
Candidates who do not meet the criteria for Pathway 2 or are currently enrolled in the UW Bothell Education Program K-8 Teacher Certification Program must successfully complete the following Middle Level methods course:
BEDUC 480: Life and Learning in the Middle School- 3 credits
This course is also open as an elective to students in the Master of Education, Teacher Certification, and Education Minor Programs. BEDUC is offered Autumn 2007 and Spring 2008 (see Time Schedule).
If you want to pursue a Middle Level endorsement in Math/Science or Humanities, you must contact the Program Officer, Jon Howeiler (425-352-5231).
Students currently enrolled in the UW Bothell K-8 Teacher Certification Program may pursue a Middle Level endorsement in conjunction with their current program.
All other candidates for a Middle Level endorsement (including students currently in the UW Bothell Master of Education program) must complete an initial adivising appointment with the program officer.
