Study Abroad: A Great Way to Explore the World

Every year hundreds of UW students study abroad. Why not be one of them? To get started, you’ll want to think about the type of program you want to experience, where you want to go and for how long. The International Programs and Exchanges (IPE) Office has a Get Started page to help you look at the various types of study abroad programs available. Take a look at the Programs  page to look for specific programs.

Once you’ve identified a program, you’ll have an application to fill out, letters of reference to get, academic transcripts to collect and a statement of purpose to write and that’s just before you get into a program. Also, unless you have a lot of money saved up, you’ll want to research and apply for scholarships. To get started, see IPE’s Get Started page.

Study Abroad Information Session Tuesday, May 22   3:30-4:30 UW1 103

Rachael Mendonsa, Academic Advisor for CUSP, and Natalia Dyba, Manager for Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards, will talk about the different types of study abroad opportunities and how to fund them. Open to all students.

Finance Your Study Abroad Experience

In addition to covering your educational and living expenses abroad, most programs will require you to pay for your airfare. The costs add up. If you are getting financial aid, it’s possible to apply it to your study abroad experience. In addition, there are plenty of scholarships available to apply for as well. See our Scholarships page for more information.
