by Shahrzad Mahmoudi
Shahrzad is an Iranian American artist born in Hartford, CT . By age five, she showed her interest in art and painting while living in the Iranian city of Gilan province on the Caspian Sea. The local environment is beautifully scenic with views of citrus orchards, rice fields, green hills and tea plants.
Shahrzad was attracted to the natural beauty of her surroundings and reflected these images and her feelings on canvas. In 2002 she moved to Kerman (in the southeast of Iran) to finish her education and was encouraged by her teachers to paint in the Persian miniature style.
Now a student at the University of Washington Bothell, Shahrzad continues to practice in the miniature and other genres of painting.
Here are some photos from her exhibit held on April 19th, 2012 in the CUSP Office.
