Academic Transition Program (ATP)

What is ATP?
The Academic Transition Program (ATP) is a year-long academic preparation program designed  to provide assistance for historically disadvantaged, low-income, and first generation college students, though all students may be considered to participate.  While these students  may not have performed well by the traditional measures of college preparedness such as standardized testing, candidates are selected for the program by showing great promise through overcoming adversity, and by demonstrating particularly strong motivation to succeed in college.

Key components of the program include:

  • A three-credit early fall course designed to introduce students to university-level coursework.
  • A two-credit Learning Strategies course offered during the students' first year at UW Bothell.
  • The ATP Mentorship Program that pairs students with a staff or faculty mentor whom provides general support and assistance as students become familiar with campus resources.

Participation in this program includes conditional admission to the University of Washington Bothell, with the expectation that students will be fully involved in the components of the program as highlighted above.

How are students selected for the program?
Students are identified for the program by admissions advisors at various stages of the application process.  Students are further reviewed by UW Bothell faculty members whom are particularly interested in students who show great promise through overcoming adversity, and who demonstrate strong motivation to succeed in college.

How much does the program cost?
The three-credit early fall course and two-credit Learning Strategies course taken during Autumn Quarter will be part of the student's Autumn Quarter tuition costs.  Autumn Quarter financial aid can be used to cover the cost of the early fall course.  Please click here for the latest tuition figures and estimates.

Can students live on campus?
Campus housing is available for the regular academic year, but is not available during the early fall course itself.  Please note that space is limited and is based on distance and a first-come, first-served basis.  For more information on campus housing, please visit http://www.bothell.washington.edu/housing.
