The Computing and Software Systems (CSS) Program at the University of Washington, Bothell (UWB) is seeking candidates for a tenured or tenure track faculty position (open rank) beginning fall 2013.
The position requires teaching interest in the general area of cybersecurity with demonstrated research ability (at the tenured Associate or full Professor level) or promise (at the Assistant Professor level) and a background in a relevant subfield of cybersecurity, such as: secure software development, vulnerability analysis, event analysis/forensics, incident response, reverse engineering malware, network security, mobile computing, or security testing. Successful candidates are expected to develop externally sponsored research programs, to supervise graduate students, and to teach and provide academic advising of students at all levels.
The CSS Program currently offers three degrees — a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Software Engineering, a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Computing, and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Software Engineering — and a graduate certificate in Software Design and Development. A fourth degree, an MS in Cybersecurity Engineering, is expected to commence in fall 2013, along with two joint degrees with other programs: a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Media Design. The MS degree will have a focus on secure software development, both from the computer science and software engineering points of view. CSS itself is working with the UWB Science and Technology Program to create a new UWB School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, for which a new building is currently under construction. All of our curricula are broadly-based in computer science and software engineering.
The eleven full-time CSS faculty members are excellent interdisciplinary teachers and scholars. CSS faculty are actively conducting research in Software Engineering, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computer Graphics, Human-Computer Interaction, Embedded Systems, Scientific Computing, Computer Vision, Computational Biology, and Computer Science Education. All University faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
Required qualifications for the position include:
- an earned doctorate in computer science or another relevant technical field,
- for appointment at the Assistant Professor level, a body of teaching and scholarship, or demonstrated promise for future work, that warrants UWB appointment at that rank,
- for appointment at the Associate Professor level, superior teaching and research ability and a relevant body of scholarship that warrant UWB appointment at that rank,
- for appointment at the Professor level, a significant record of publications, research funding, and academic leadership that warrants UWB appointment at that rank,
- demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and
- experience with or commitment to working with and enhancing learning for diverse student and community populations.
Only complete applications will be considered. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a list of a minimum of three professional references including contact information, a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a research plan. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2012; the position will remain open until filled. Please address application materials to the CSS Cybersecurity Search Committee and submit to css-search@uwb.edu.
