Accessing the Network
- Employees - Before an employee can access UW Bothell Network resources, their department needs to Request a Network Account for them.
- Students - Are granted access to academic computing resources through the use of their UWNetID. To learn more about this click Here.
Common Network Infrastructure
Bothell Network Services supports 6 buildings on campus and utilizes a high-speed gigabit backbone with 100 Mb/s to each workstation. In our production environment, we maintain a Microsoft Windows 2003 Active directory domain. 50 Production servers support this infrastructure and provide e-mail, file, print, and a host of other networked applications to the campus community.
Policies
Using the UW Bothell Network is a responsibility that comes with certain risks. Our faculty, staff and students are encouraged to review the following policies to ensure safe and responsible use of this University resource.
Internet
Two high-speed fiber Internet connections through the University of Washington, Seattle provide connectivity to the Bothell campus. This connection is shared between UW Bothell and the Campus Library.
Connecting to the Network
- Campus LAN - All standard Windows and Macintosh desktops and laptops provided and supported by UW Bothell Information Technologies are by default connected to the campus's Local Area Network (LAN). This connection via Ethernet cables to network interface cards is capable of data communication speeds of at least 100 MB/sec. They are also logically attached to a Windows Active Directory domain for authentication to local enterprise resources. Personal laptops and other devices brought to campus may be set to dynamically receive configuration information and access the Internet at any free network port on campus (marked with a yellow "ENET" sticker).
- Wireless Network - UW Bothell provides a ubiquitous wireless access network for the primary student buildings of UW Bothell. These buildings include all floors of UW1, UW2, LB1, LB2, LBA, and the Truly House. Current maximum network speeds for ideal connections to this network are 11 MB/sec (802.11b standard). For more information about connecting to a University of Washington wireless network, please review this page: http://www.washington.edu/itconnect/connecting/wireless/
- Off-Campus - Remote access to network resources on the UW Bothell network is also available for web, e-mail, file servers and a host of other services specified for educational and administrative use. Directions for use of these services can be found at: http://www.uwb.edu/computing/knowledgebase/index.xhtml
