Forwarding Bothell Email
It is possible to forward your Bothell email to another address. Outlook can be coaxed into forwarding incoming messages with the Rules Wizard. Information Systems will not be held accountable for any loss of email as a result of implementing this rule.
Setting the Rule on a PC (Outlook XP)
Create a Contact for the Forward Address:
- Open the Contacts folder. This is located under "Outlook Today" in the Folder List, and is the third/forth item on the "Outlook Bar."
- Click on the New button to create a new contact.
Enter forward (or something similar that identifies the contact) in the File As: field.Enter the email address you want to forward your mail to in the E-mail field.Click on the Save and Close button.
Create the Rule:
- Click on Tools menu.
- From the menu, click on Rules Wizard...
- This should bring up the Rules Wizard window.
- Press the New... button.
- Click on the radio button next to "Start from a blank rule."
- Click once to select (highlight) Check messages when they arrive.
- Click Next>
- Click Next> again, skipping past the first set of conditions.
- A warning will appear, its blaring yellow icon signifying danger. Luckily, we do intend to apply this rule to all incoming messages, so we will...
- In the next list, scroll down until you see redirect it to people or distribution list and check that box.
- At this point, the window should look something like this:
Click on the underlined text ("people or distribution list") to set what address.The "Rule Address" window will appear. We need to find the contact that was created earlier.Click where it says Global Address List, which is in the upper-right corner of the window.Select Contacts from the pulldown list. This will display your Contacts in the left list.Double click on the contact you created earlier (in the example, it was named forward).Click OK. The contact will now be part of the rule description.Click Next>Click Next> and move past the 'exceptions' option.The final Rules Wizard page will be displayed. - The default name should work, although you can christen it with any appropriate handle.
- Check Run this rule now... if you want to forward the email that is currently in your Inbox.
- Make sure Turn on this rule is checked!
- Review the rule description to verify that it is sufficient.
Click on Finish.Setting the Rule on a Mac (Outlook 2001)
- Launch Outlook.
- Click on the Tools menu.
- From the menu, click on Rules...
- The Rules window will open up.
Click on Add Rule...Up comes the Edit Rule window...Click on the check box next to Forward. This should light up the Forward options.Enter the email address you want to forward your mail to in the To field. Make sure it is spelled correctly, or your mail will bounce away to oblivion!Change the Method (found directly underneath the To field) to Leave message intact. This will ensure that messages are forwarded in their entirety.The window should now appear similar to this:
Click OK.A warning message will display cautionary advice ("This rule will fire for all incoming messages") - 'fire' your mouse to the appropriate spot and...Click Yes.You should now see the new rule listed in the Rules window.Click OK to finish.Questions/Comments
