How to Access your Folders on the Faculty Staff File Server from Off-Campus
- Open the Internet Explorer Browser.
- Click File on the menu bar, and then click Open.
- Note for IE7 Users:
- If your browser window is not displaying the Menu Bar that contains the File>Open... option you need to enable this menu bar by clicking Tools, then selecting Menu Bar from the listed options.
- To access your personal folder:
- In the "Open" box, type the location of your folder on the network, which is https://webfiles.uwb.edu/faculty-staff/home. Don't forget to type the ‘s' in "https".
- Check the box labeled ‘Open as Web Folder' and click OK.
- To access folders for a class:
- To access departmental folders:
- In the "Open" box, type the location of your folder on the network, which is https://webfiles.uwb.edu/departments/departmentname. Don't forget to type the ‘s' in "https".
- Check the box labeled ‘Open as Web Folder' and click OK.
- To gain access to these folders, you will need to enter your login and password in the dialog box.
- Type in your UWB computer logon and password.
- Click OK.
- Your personal folder, class folder, or departmental folders should appear in the window that opens. Select, and double-click the folder to open it, and access your files. You can now save directly to this folder and drag and drop files to this folder from your home computer.
Creating a bookmark or favorite in Windows XP
- You can save this location in your Favorites by going to Favorites > Add to Favorites...
The "Add Favorite" dialog box will appear. You can accept the default favorite name, or change it by typing in the text box, then click OK.
Your folder location is now saved in your Favorites menu.
Note for Windows XP users: Once you have completed the steps above for a folder, you can also access it by going to "My Network Places"
For Vista Users, You Can Use the Following Method to Add a Shortcut:
- Once you have the folder you want to create a shortcut to open, right click on the address bar and select "Copy Address".
- In the dialog box that appears, select "Paste Shortcut"
- The shortcut should appear on your desktop.
