Faculty & Staff

Preparing to Migrate to the New Faculty Staff File Server

Why are we moving to new file services?

Information Systems is enhancing UWB File Services which will provide faculty and staff 1 GB of server space for their personal folders (an addition of 500 MB) and the added convenience of accessing personal folders from off-campus, anywhere in the world by simply using Internet Explorer.

What will happen to my files on Mercury?

All of your files will be backed-up and copied to the new Faculty Staff File Server.  Information Systems will ensure that none of your files are lost during this transition.

What does this mean for me?

You will be notified by Information Systems when your Mercury folder will be moved to the new UWB File Server. Your work will be affected in only four different areas: Outlook, any shortcuts to your personal folder, any shortcuts to your departmental folder, and accessing your files from off campus.

Before migrating to the new Faculty Staff File Server

You will need to check Outlook.  If you have a Personal folder and/or an Archive folder that is automatically saving to Mercury, then before Information Systems migrates you to the new Faculty Staff File Server you will need to disconnect these folders from Mercury. Directions are provided below.

After migrating to the new Faculty Staff File Server

You may need to reconfigure Outlook and Shortcuts to Mercury.  Step-by-step instructions are found at Configuring your Computer after Migrating to the New Faculty & Staff File Server.

Accessing your Folders from Home after migrating to the new Faculty Staff File server

The File Services will provide an easier method for accessing your files using Internet Explorer Webfiles, which allow you to open and save files from any location off campus as if you were at your work computer.  Directions for accessing and using Webfiles are found at How to Access your Folders on the Faculty Staff File Server from Off-Campus.
