Don Whitney

Don's responsibilities include recruiting, admissions and advising for the MBA Program along with managing MBA staff support. Don has devoted the majority of his professional life to serving graduate and undergraduate students in higher education. Don has been with the University of Washington since late 1984. His work with UW Seattle students included progressively responsible advising and administrative student service positions in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, School of Social Work and the College of Forest Resources. Don came to UW Bothell as an advisor and recruiter in Student Affairs in January 1999. A split appointment occurred in April 2000 when he was asked to become the Interim Coordinator for the Master's Program in Business along with his work in Student Affairs. While in Student Affairs, he helped to create new nursing articulation agreements between nursing programs at UWB and five community colleges. Don has been with the Business Program since December 2000.

At Oregon State University from 1980-84, Don had a faculty appointment when he became the first person to serve as Academic Counselor in the Athletic Department. At OSU, he provided leadership and cross-campus collaboration in developing a program of support services for student-athletes that led to increased graduation rates especially among minority student-athletes. He helped to organize the PAC-10 Academic-Athletic Counselors and served as Treasurer of the N4A (National Academic Athletic Advising Association). Prior to 1980, Don was a radio newsman and he taught part-time in the Department of Religious Studies and the Honors Program at OSU.

Don has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Oregon State University (1971) and a Master's in Religion degree from the School of Theology at Claremont (1976) in California.
