Do I need an undergraduate degree in business to be admitted to the MBA program?

No. Students who hold a bachelor's degree in any undergraduate discipline are encouraged to apply.

What criteria do you use when evaluating students?

The Admissions Committee considers several criteria, including previous academic performance, official GMAT scores, writing ability (GMAT writing score and application essays), work history (quantity and type of full-time work experience, level of responsibility, professional and management experience, and career progression), a small group application interview, professional goals and skills (as indicated by applicant's response to two essay questions), the applicant's strengths and weaknesses (as indicated by two letters of recommendation from professional references), and community service.

What is the minimum GMAT score required for consideration?

There is no minimum GMAT score required for consideration. The GMAT can be taken more than one time, and the highest score is used.

Our goal is to admit students who have a high probability of success and who will continue to contribute the most to their peers and to the overall learning environment.

It is important to keep in mind that the MBA Admissions Committee considers the applicant's total file, including GMAT scores, undergraduate and/or graduate education and grade point average in the last 90 quarter units or 60 semester units completed, years of work experience, essays, professional goals and objectives, and letters of recommendation. For example, the GMAT score may be less of an issue for an applicant who has 10 to 20 years of progressively more responsible work experience in a high tech industry than it may for a recent college graduate with 3 to 4 years of full-time work experience.

There are books and classes available to help you prepare for the GMAT. Please refer to MBA Admissions for resources and to sign up for the GMAT.

May I submit my on-line application as complete if I do not take the GMAT exam until just before one of the application deadlines?

Yes. If your exam is scheduled just before or near the deadline, you may submit your on-line application with the fee payment.  However, after taking the GMAT in this situation, the applicant may complete the GMAT section of the application but must fax or scan the unofficial scores to the MBA Program Office in order for the application to be complete and considered for admissions.  After completion of the GMAT, you will be given a copy of your unofficial verbal and quantitative scores. You may submit the unofficial GMAT scores on-line but you must fax or scan a copy of the unofficial scores to:  FAX - 425-352-5277; ATTN: MBA Admissions) or email: uwbmba@uwb.edu with subject line, "GMAT Scores".

At the beginning of the exam, you must indicate that your official scores are to be sent to the UW Bothell MBA Evening Program. We will then receive your official scores, including the writing score, about three weeks after your exam.

How is the application interview arranged?

Interview appointments will be initiated by the MBA Program after an initial screening of applicants about 2 to 3 weeks after each deadline. Small group interviews are usually conducted in person on the UW Bothell campus with a faculty and staff member about 4 to 5 weeks after the deadline. Although it is not recommended, telephone interviews may be arranged to be part of the group interview.

How many students are expected in the new MBA class for Autumn 2008? Is there a wait list?

We expect approximately 40 new students for Autumn 2008. We have had a wait list for the past several years and expect to have another wait list this year. If an admitted student does not matriculate, there may be space for another student from the wait list.

Is there a quota on the number of students admitted from the February 4th applicants in order for space to be available for the April 16th applicants?

There is no quota.  Highly qualified applicants are considered until the available places are filled. Applicants in each group are considered on the strength of their materials. We encourage you to have materials in by the earlier deadline to ensure priority consideration.

How much is tuition?

MBA tuition and fees for the 2007-2009 academic years are approximately: resident - $6,036/quarter; non-resident $8,374/quarter.  Thus, the approximate total tuition and fees for the 22-month evening MBA Program (7 quarters) are: resident - $42,252; non-resident - $58,618.  Summer tuition may vary slightly.

The tuition for MBA students who enter with each cohort is "frozen" for the two academic years of the program while summer tuition and annual fees may vary slightly. Therefore, the students may budget for the quarterly tuition over the 22 months of the program without concern that the tuition will change. Tuition is set annually by the UW Regents usually in June for the upcoming year.

Is a degree from UW Bothell a University of Washington degree?

Yes. The University of Washington is a three-campus university with campuses in Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma. This is a degree from the University of Washington Bothell.

I have graduate credits from another MBA Program. If I apply and am admitted, are the credits transferable?

Up to 12 credits may transfer or be waived out of the 74 credits required for the MBA Program. Credits earned in an AACSB-accredited MBA Program are preferred. If a waiver is approved, you may select an elective course with the same number of credits required to replace the waived MBA course.

Once you are admitted, you may complete a transfer petition for credits from classes that are similar in content to our classes. The petition must include course descriptions and syllabi on classes from the transfer institution.  Please contact Don Whitney, MBA Manager of Admissions and Student Services, for more information, 425-352-5434.
