Zak

Class of 2015

Why did you choose UW Bothell?
At first I was intrigued by the small class size, but after taking a tour and realizing how friendly and helpful everyone was I knew that this is where I wanted to attend college.

Plans after graduation
I would love to go back to Kenya and give back to the people that are currently stricken by poverty and political mishap by doing humanitarian work.

Random fact about you
I speak three languages: Somali, English and Kiswahili.

What’s your major and why you chose that one?
I plan to major in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. I chose these two focuses because of my passion for math and computers.

Where are you from?
I was born in Kenya and lived there till 2007 before moving to Seattle.

What have you been involved in during your time here?
I play co-ed soccer and I am a member of the Chess Club, Human Equality and Rights Everywhere club, and I also work at the Office of Admissions at UW Bothell.

How was your transition from high school here?
Total independence from parental pressure. This can be tough if misused. I learned that it is my responsibility to organize myself since no one is going to remind you what to do; in high school you expect everything from the teacher.

Any advice to prospective students?
Work hard, manage your time wisely, avoid procrastination, make a lot of friends in class, talk to your professors if you need help and make use of the resources that are available on campus.
