University of Washington Bothell Grants

The University of Washington Bothell is dedicated to creating broad funding opportunities for faculty and academic staff to encourage and support excellence in research and educational activities. Major opportunities include:

Teaching & Scholarship Enhancement Projects 2008. Three endowments at the University of Washington Bothell, support faculty projects for the enhancement of teaching and scholarship: Worthington Scholar, Worthington Technology, Rose Endowment Award. This announcement combines all three and invites projects that can be funded under any one of the three endowment requirements.

Worthington Academic Distinction Award. The Worthington Academic Distinction Program has been created to support major developments in UW Bothell programs that will promote widely recognized excellence in the supported areas. These projects, which include establishment of new majors and centers, support academic program development and improvements that extend beyond the work of a single faculty member.  There will be no Academic Distinction Award competition in 2008.

Worthington Academic Distinction Award Recipients

Research Circles. Small cohorts of three to four faculty and academic staff meet regularly during the academic year to discuss their scholarship and professional writing. Each participant is supported by a modest stipend for research materials and travel, as well as "seed money" for innovative research.

Teaching Circles. Small cohorts made up of faculty and academic staff agree to meet regularly during the year to discuss their teaching and learn more about each other's classroom strategies. Modest stipends of $300 are available to each participant for expenses incurred during the academic year related to teaching and/or research efforts.

University of Washington General Funds for Faculty, Staff, or Students

Graduate School Fund for Excellence and Innovation ~ provides funding assistance to campus units in support of graduate students, graduate faculty, academic and research programs, scholarly activities, and special initiatives that support and enhance graduate and undergraduate studies at the University of Washington .

Technology Gap Innovation Fund ~ intended to further the development of UW innovations with commercial potential

Royalty Research Fund (RRF) ~ intended for faculty and researchers embarking on new research paths

Mary Gates Endowment ~ supports excellence in undergraduate education at the University of Washington and, in particular, to create new opportunities for students to become independent learners and community leaders

International Mobility Grant Program from the Marc Lindenberg Center. Each fall, the Marc Lindenberg Center invites UW faculty and researchers at all campuses to apply for funding to take up to four students with them on an international research or service project or to attend or present at a conference in a developing country. The purpose of this grant program is to allow a greater number of students to have an international learning experience as a component of their degree program

Internal Support of Graduate Study and Research policy from the Office of the Provost. These funds are directed toward short term support rather than continuing or multi-year commitments. Priority is given to proposals where support may lead to results that justify longer-term outside funding

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute

Center for AIDS Research and STD

Center for Ecogenetics and Environmental Health Pilot Research Program ~ provides initial support for investigators to establish novel lines of research in environmental health sciences

Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences

Seed Grant Program ~ provides funding for promising research at the intersection of statistics and the social sciences.

Diabetes Endocrinology Research Center ~ intended to develop new research in the area of diabetes and related metabolic-endocrine diseases at the University of Washington

Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Grant Program ~ offers a limited number of short-term, one time emergency management and homeland security grants. These annual UW funds will be provided to support internal programs that improve the overall emergency preparedness efforts for the campus community

Institute for Ethnic Studies in the United States ~ supports multi-ethnic, and ethnic-specific multi-disciplinary research on problems or issues pertaining to members of ethnic minority groups, particularly those living in the Pacific Northwest

Simpson Center for the Humanities ~ invites proposals from members of the University of Washington community to support projects in the humanities. A wide variety of research/scholarship activities can be supported with these grants

Washington Sea Grant ~ funds research and education projects and offers fellowship opportunities, Washington Sea Grant Program furthers our understanding and stewardship of regional marine resources
